Due to personal health/physical limitations, in 2022 I had to retire from teaching and performing bellydance. For over 20 years, this dance has truly been my joy and my calling. Unfortunately, my intractable migraines have continued unabated, and while vastly improved from 2019-2020, is still a daily issue ranging from moderate discomfort to fairly incapacitated.
I have always prided myself on being a consistent, reliable partner in your dance journey. I have tried to exemplify the type of commitment and professionalism necessary to teach and perform, and you have mirrored that back to me with your commitment and enthusiasm. I have emphasized the necessity of continually educating and training at every point in one’s dance journey, and I have seen you all turning up time and again to increase your knowledge and appreciation of this art form. And your support for one another, and of my pursuits as a director and studio owner, has been priceless. It is absolutely the greatest gift any teacher could hope for: students who truly care, are eager to learn, excited to grow, and share their open hearts and minds with their community. You all are simply amazing! When I realized I was not able to model that level of commitment for you all—and may not be able to in the future—I knew it was time to set this part of my life work down. It would be selfish and irresponsible of me to cling to a role I can no longer fill with confidence.
What about Studio Deep Roots?
So far, I have been able to keep the studio afloat, and intend to continue as long as I am able. The space we have cultivated together is far bigger than any one person, certainly bigger than me. I hope to keep it around to be a resource for community and connection into the future. DRD members have discussed possibilities of future volunteer parties to help with the load of maintaining the space, and if you’re interested, we will keep you posted on opportunities to be there to lend a hand.
The best help you can offer in the meantime is spreading the word that Studio Deep Roots is absolutely still open for business, and we are always happy to hear from teachers and practitioners interested in renting for their classes and events. Thanks for your continued support.
