Fletcher Pilates® Professional Teacher,
Melissa is a Fletcher Pilates® Professional Teacher, former massage therapist, UW Biology graduate, nature/animal lover, and avid traveller who is passionate about sharing the world of Pilates and movement with her clients.
One of Melissa’s favorite aspects of teaching is helping students to find the “Aha!” moments in their mind-body connection. Students can bring this new awareness into their daily lives to improve posture, breathing patterns, performance, and bring pain relief. She is so grateful to have the honor and opportunity to teach this work.
What is Pilates?
Joseph and Clara Pilates began their revolutionary work in the early 1920’s in New York City. Pioneering physical and movement therapy, they called their new fitness modality “Body Contrology,” a term, which to them, implied articulate, and fluid physical control. Body Contrology – now known simply as Pilates – is a complete physical conditioning program, incorporating strength, flexibility, coordination, balance and endurance training. The dual emphasis on movement awareness and efficient body mechanics is key to improving posture, alignment and overall body balance.
What is Fletcher Pilates?
Fletcher Pilates evolves directly from the original method taught to Ron Fletcher by Joe and Clara Pilates. Ron was a gifted choreographer, dancer, teacher and devoted student of Joe and Clara Pilates.
Combining the principles and precision techniques of classic Pilates with his extensive modern dance background, Fletcher developed his own innovative and comprehensive movement experience that is organic, flowing, and artful – and also deeply engages the body, mind, and breath. Ron placed great emphasis on breath-work and bringing the Pilates work into standing – and therefore, into everyday life.
